Example: If 3 players are already going for Knights, try to stay away from that build since you don't want to fight all of them for the same units. There are 8 players in a match, always look out for what units they're going for so that you have a higher chance of getting the ones that you need. Wait for the round to start and start rolling.Your goal is to always be at 50 gold or above. If you want to make sure that your income is steady and you don't miss out on gold, make sure to never roll before the round starts. Welcome to playing knockout more, I also don't have time for standards but that's also making me enjoy this mode much more. What should you know before going into a game of Dota Underlord? Yes time is very short but there is still enough time to do it. Lastly, try to give yourself a few seconds to scout before the start of combat, see what your opponents are running and try to move your units to better counter them.

Items is pretty similar to standard, just remember knockout scales Stonehall items faster so if you have a carry with a few kills go for them and they should snowball from there. The other three are pretty close (less than 0.5 wins apart). Damage Hobgen is for me average middle of the road, he's not terrible but not great, if you decide to pick him make sure you have a comp that isn't dead before he casts his ultimate. I sometimes see spectacular comps running support Hobgen but if you plan on ranking up that would be my avoid and don' t be tempted option. But for some reason I average over 1 rank lower using support Hobgen so I would never pick him. Underlord wise, it is difficult to say which is better over another, because it really does come down to what comp you are running that will suit one over another. That gold should be used to further develop units on your board already, even put in your third copy if you have to while waiting for the three star. Finally, don't have more than one 'new' unit that isn't on your board (for example, I don't have an alchemist in play but I'm going to buy this alchemist and put him in next round when the limit goes up). Your last choice is to replace your starting unit, especially in the first half of knockout games. General rule for me is if I plan on replacing starting units I don't do more than one per round and try to make work what the game gave me to start if at all possible. It is difficult to replace units in knockout so you'll be stuck with these for a while.

When picking your starting units, the best tip is to pick units you can keep (for synergy overlap or for tier 3 carry purposes), guess what the other three units might potentially be as well when applying this rule.

When you are on your last life sell your benched units and roll if you can star another unit on your board. Because the biggest difference from standard mode is, it doesn't matter what you lose by you lose one life, having an extra life because you edged out a win somewhere is the difference of at least one rank placement sometimes even up to three when you see triple knockouts on a turn, just because you survived an extra round. There's always an exception to the rule in knockout strategy wise.īut I will try to go over the basics rules I play with below, one thing that doesn't change for me is to remember to put out your best comp every round even if that includes selling an unit I know I would like to hopefully develop in the following round (and possibly dominating the game with it) just to have an extra starred unit this round. Right so then you think you've got a good setup and the games gives you what you want, perfect! But at times the RNG doesn't fall your way and you get units that you weren't planning for and have to decide on the spot whether to change your comp up a little. I feel knockout is a very RNG based game mode, while there are strategies for every aspect of the knockout starting from which starting units to pick, whether to go for synergy or unit quality, then on to which items to pick and which underlord to pick.
